The College of Nursing started in June 1972 in response to the articulated petitions of parents and students for the need of a nursing school which is responsible for community service. Its purpose is to provide educational instruction and training for college entrants; to offer a solution to shortage of nurses in other countries; and to make the nursing services available to the community particularly in the promotion of health and welfare of the people.

 

Flamer Christian College started its modest beginning as an orphanage having one of its pure intentions to engage in providing nursing education. The Articulated petitions of parents for the need of a college of nursing was realize may begin last June 1972 through the proposal Dr. George Viterbo who was the chairman of the board of the trustees to the Filamer Christian College President Dr. Agustin Masa.

 

Dr. Viterbo was also instrumental in having the clinical exposure of FCC-College of Nursing students at CEH instead of having CPU affiliates.

 

Capiz Emmnauel Hospital served as the base hospital of FCC-College of Nursing. The recognition as a nursing program was given in the same year through the efforts of Mrs. Naomi Fegarido who served as a principal and paved the way in providing educational instructions and training for nurses. Her invaluable efforts made the nursing services available to Capiz and other communities.

 

 

 

Mrs. Evelina Dureza, a special nurse of the former president Fredinand E. Marcos, assumed the leadership. She left together with the marcoses during their exile to Hawaii. The students were required to stay at the dormitory after their Capping Ceremony until the year 1980.

 

The First Dormitory East were the present Roblee hall was situated. The dormitory West (present library) and CEH dormitory served as an additional dormitory. The dormitory was taken care of the following matrons: Dinah Grande; Peregrina Franco; Cherry Victoria Ladesma-Robles; Florabelle Cabrejas; Grace Falcis; Wedney Samsona and Melchizedek Penacerrada and Lorine Aguilos. Faith guided FCC-College of nursing as a tool in their initial footsteps as an educational institution.

 

 

 

Ms. Loreto Tupaz, served as Dean for the first two years of existence of the College. The strict and firm leadership of the Florence Nightingale of Iloilo and Anastacia Giron Tupaz awardee of 1976 sharpened both the minds and the hearts of students to become upright Christian nurses. Her legacy motivated her successors Ms. Nora Carnaje in mastering the provision of necessary knowledge, well-enhance skills and Christ-like attitude. The youngest Dean during her time and a board examination topnotcher, Ms. Madeline Relano pursued the rich spiritual legacy of FCC-CN as a nursing academic and institution. The first graduates of the college of nursing was in 1976 having one hundred percent passing percentage in the nursing board examination. It was Ms. Araceli Caldea, one of the pioneer graduates who was appointed as an officer-in-charge after Relano’s turn.

Incumbent in Nursing is dynamism which resulted into several significant personages that served as backbones of the College having been appointed as an officer-in-charge which contributed to its rich history. They are Letecia Lim Ignacio, Agnes Villaruz, Lily Ginapago and Ruth Taglorin. After the professional advancement of the university of t he Philippines of Ms. Araceli Caldea, she was appointed as the Dean of the College of Nursing. Ms. Caldea founded the Nurses Christian fellowship. Leadership sustained the significant triumphs of the institution as they continue to envision to be at the golden gate of excellence. Christianity heightened the rich heritage of the institution.
